Local Charities are the big winners to Jewel-Osco’s Competition

L-R Deb Pankey, Kim Vatis, Stefan Holt, and yours truly

Jewel-Osco held a free Family Day at the Stockman & Dakota Corral this past Saturday. There were cowboy-themed games, western-style prizes, and a Celebrity Grill-off Showdown to benefit local charities. I am honored to be one of the competitors and I chose to represent and win for the Greater Chicago Food Depository.

Without much experience in the kitchen and not even close to a celebrity status, I went ahead and chucked it as “Comedy for a Cause” instead. In my case, that is. Needless to say, it was fun. I placed last but I’m very happy to donate $2,500 to my chosen charity. I consider that a big win in my book.

Libertyville Event:
1st place: Kim Vatis and Stefan Holt of NBC5 Chicago – $5000 will go to Loaves & Fishes Community Pantry, in Naperville
2nd place: Deb Pankey of Daily Herald – $2500 will go to Palatine Township Food Pantry
3rd place: MJ Tam of Chicagonista – $2500 will go to Greater Chicago Food Depository

Chicago Event:
1st place: Patrick Elwood of Fox News – $5000 Lakeview Pantry
2nd place: Steve Dolinsky of ABC7 – $2500 Meals on Wheels
2nd place: Matt McGill of WVON-AM – $2500 Trinity United Church of Christ

My masterpiece

There were cowboys
free food
new found friends (like Deb of Jewelry by Park Lane), and our jewelries even matched!
and of course lots of steak grilling!
Fun Day!
