On June 9th the new $855 million dollar Children’s Memorial Hospital now called Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago will officially open at 225 East Chicago Avenue just right beside the new Prentice Women’s Hospital. Besides the new state-of-the-art facility and newest technology, kid patients played a major role in designing the Lurie Children’s.
From interactive elevator art to the Chicago Fire Truck play area, Lincoln Park Zoo, Shedd Aquarium, and Museum of Contemporary Arts are just amongst the many local organizations that supported and played a big role in the design of the new hospital. The result is a welcoming space filled with the warmth of fun and play. An environment just perfect for kids.
Here are some important key dates leading to the big move on June 9th.
- Saturday, May 12: Move for the Kids 5K Run/Walk presented by Navistar. Event begins at Children’s Memorial in Lincoln Park at 8:00 AM and ends in Lake Shore Park on Chicago Avenue, across the street from Lurie Children’s. Entertainment and guided tours of Lurie Children’s will be available. www.childrensmemorial.org/moveforthekids
- Monday, June 4: Ribbon cutting. Event will take place in front of hospital on Chicago Avenue at 10:00 AM.
- Saturday, June 9: Move day. Up to 200 patients will be transported via ambulance from Children’s Memorial to Lurie Children’s. Fullerton Avenue will be closed from Lincoln/Halsted to Lake Shore Drive.
