While our Boys of Summer are a collective 14 games back and we hope the Bulls will continue to charge through the playoffs, we shouldn’t forget that this is the start of women’s sports season.
- The Chicago Force, our football team, is off to a 4-0 start. They play on the north side and tickets are $10 for general admission, $3 for students, kids and seniors. While the crowd is not even close to as a large as what you’ll find cheering Da Bears, the passion the players exhibit is equal. This is tackle football, folks. No holds barred tackle. It’s fierce and you’ll walk away with utmost respect.
- The Chicago Bandits, our softball team, has a new home this season in Rosemont. Located on Jennie Finch Way, the new stadium is the permanent home of our 2008 Champions. I can’t wait to get out to the new stadium. The past few years they have played on college campuses that just did not offer a lot of amenities. Softball was my sport in high school, so it has a special place in my heart.
- The Chicago Sky, our basketball team, tips off on June 4th at the Rosemont, er, All-State Arena. While they did just trade away one of my favorite players, Jia Perkins, I am excited to be yelling, “VanderSLOOOOOT!” not to mention that we still have Big Syl. Let’s cross our fingers for a playoff berth!
- The Chicago Red Stars, our soccer team, cancelled their season in December, but reversed course by joining a different soccer league. The only down side to the revived Red Stars is that have moved to Benedictine University in Lisle, Illinois. But don’t let that damper your excited as there are only two public games. I’m not exactly sure what’s up with that, but hey, it means we need to get out while we can!
I really can’t say enough about how family friendly these games are. I believe it’s a factor of the low ticket prices. It is pretty affordable to bring the whole family out for a game. Especially when we compare to men’s sporting prices. And because the crowds are full of families, it sets a tone. Not to say that only families attend! Oh no, I’ve spent a few Chicago Sky games with beer, nachos and my girlfriends.
So what are you waiting for? Grab your kids, your girlfriends, heck, both! And get yourself some tickets for some affordable sporting fun.
